Water is a life essential commodity that is worth its weight in gold. The human body, funnily enough, has more water in it, than you would think- more than two-thirds of our body is water. Your blood that is responsible for carrying oxygen, waste products and nutrients, is made mostly of water- as much 95% of it! Water is the participant that plays a major role in most of the chemical reactions that take place in the body.

If you are trying to enjoy clean living and have adopted plant-based foods to your regimen, then neglecting water will only take you so far. The human body requires an apt amount of water to remove toxins and clean out waste products; waste products that are created as a result of metabolic activities such as that of converting complex foods to simpler forms, for the use of energy. These waste products enter the bloodstream, where they find their way to the kidney, which filters it and then subsequently remove it via the urine.

When water intake is low, the kidney works overtime to concentrate the toxins in the urine, and re-absorb as much water as it possibly can. The end result of drinking little water is that the toxins aren’t entirely removed and some of it stays in the body, longer than it should.

It doesn’t matter what organic, healthy plant-based recipes you have planned out for the day; all of it amounts to nothing if the water content is not adequate. Another consequence of not putting in sufficient water involves nausea, headaches, dizziness and dry mouth amongst others. There are some serious chronic ailments that occur when there is little water intake, such as the formation of kidney stones, infections in the bladder and so on. Make sure to get at least 1.5 liters of water in your body every day.

Water is essential in regulating the body temperature as well, especially through sweating that removes wastes and cools the body. Those who live in warmer climates and those who partake in physically demanding activities, need to refill their water tanks. Even in situations where you consume excess salts or have excess proteins, the amount of water needed to effectively break them down and subsequently eliminate them is more!

Fluids Needn’t Have To Be Water Alone

In the best circumstances, clear drinking water would be the ideal choice. But getting your water intake from juices, coffee, fruits and vegetables are equally good. However, limit carbonated and sugary beverages, as these are heavily processed.
